Q AND A

Question: What does Muhaasabah mean?

Answer: Muhaasabah means to take stock or reckoning. In Tasawwuf it means to take stock of one’s own deeds and activities. One should reflect over the entire day’s acts and deeds. Upon recalling a noble act or an act of Ibaadat, express one’s gratefulness (Shukr) unto Allah Ta’ala and request for greater Taufeeq (ability and inclination) to enhance virtue. Upon recalling one’s evil or wrong doing, become regretful.

Question: I have read in the writings and heard in the Bayaans of the Ulama-e-Haq that one should not decorate one’s shop windows, walls, etc. with slogans and placards, etc. of ‘Christmas’, ‘New Year’ and anything to do with the festive season.
Since December is a time we businessmen take advantage of in sales, I was wondering if it was permitted for me to plan a sale or run a special on certain items in my shop?

Answer: Alhamdulillah, we praise Allah Ta’ala that there are still Muslims who are careful of the Shariat regarding their dealings in their business.

Furthermore, we fully agree and subscribe to the same rulings as the Ulama-e-Haq whose literature you read and whose Bayaans you heard that a Muslim is NOT allowed to decorate his shop with anything related to the Kufr festive season.

Regarding your question, note the following:

It is permissible to issue a sale or run a special in your shop.
Keep it and name it as a general sale or special like ’14 days special’, or ‘December specials’, or in any other general term.
Don’t flavour it with any of the festive activities like inserting bells, trees, carts, snow, trees or other related symbols and signs of Christmas in any of your special boards, pamphlets / brochures, etc.

May Allah Ta’ala keep you and all Muslim businessmen sincere and safe during this time of the year.

Question: Is it permissible to use/send emojis or smileys on WhatsApp etc.? Almost everyone using WhatsApp and other social media platforms uses them when sending messages. Even some ulema use them. Please comment.

Answer: In Islaam, ALL animated pictures and videos are totally impermissible and Haraam. We are not interested of which Molvi who has misunderstood or perhaps opted to be of shallow-mind in understanding this fact, by justifying digital photography/videos and TV.

We are also not interested at which Molvi has issued what justification in his appearing on Haraam Devil’s Box (TV). The TV, together with the modern Molvis who appear on it as well as the channel on which they appear are all Haraam. These modern Molvis are in actual fact Mudhilleen (scholars who lead others astray).

Regarding such scholars, Nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam mentioned that he fears them more than Dajjal for the Ummah. They are the Aimmah-e-Mudhilleen.

With regards to emojis and smileys, they are Haraam to send on social media. Using them makes one sinful. The same sin of photography will be accrued by the one using such emojis/smileys which are representations of smiling humanoid faces, etc.

Marrying Non-Muslims?

Question: Is it permissible for a Muslim lady to marry a non-Muslim?

Answer: It is Haraam for a Muslim lady to marry any non Muslim male. Reference is Surah 60 verse 10 and Surah 2 verse 221. Any person who considers it permissible is out of the fold of Islam and classified as a Murtad (apostate). It is compulsory upon the Ummah to boycott such miscreants.
