Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi Sahib رحمه الله has said that piety does not lie in leaving out all desires but rather in their reduction. One should not become enamored of the glitter of the world. There must be a discipline. However, if through the mercy of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله, the bounties come unintentionally, it is not harmful.
Eating too little will cause weakness and overeating will also cause distress. The very important thing is maintaining a proper balance in Deen.
A unique principle has been shared by Hazrat Hajee Imdaadullah Makki رحمه الله who has advised that it is necessary to provide comfort to the Nafs so that work can be extracted from it. Hazrat Thaanwi رحمه الله further adds that the output of a happy labourer will be more.
