THE REALITY OF THE SHARI’AT (REVEALED LAW) AND ITS NECESSITY

In the Holy Quraan Majeed Allah Ta’aala addresses Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam saying:

ثُمَّ جَعَلناكَ عَلىٰ شَريعَةٍ مِنَ الأَمرِ فَاتَّبِعها وَلا تَتَّبِع أَهواءَ الَّذينَ لا يَعلَمونَ

(Surah الجاثية Verse 18 )

“And now have We set thee (O Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) on an ordained way of (Our) commandment; so follow it, and follow not the whims of those who know not.”

هٰذا بَصائِرُ لِلنّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحمَةٌ لِقَومٍ يوقِنونَ

(Surah الجاثية Verse 20 )

“This is enlightenment for mankind and guidance and mercy for a people who are certain [in faith].”

  1. بَصائِرُ is the plural of بَصِيْرَتْ and بَصِيْرَتْ means a spiritual, inner light. Just as how بَصَرَ means to “look” i.e. apparent light. Thus the Shari’at is a بَصائِر, which means it is inner enlightenment.
  2. The Shariat is هُدًى which is absolute and complete Hidayat (Guidance). That through the Shari’at the road is seen and delivers one to the maqsood (objective).
  3. The Shariat is also رَحمَةٌ (mercy) which is the goal and the ultimate success.

It is as if the Shari’at is a combination of three things which the traveller and the seeker are most in need of. When a person sets out to reach a certain objective then he will have a goal and a way/mode through which the path becomes clear.

We should be thankful to Allah Ta’aala Who is saying to us that the Shari’at is such a set of regulations which are a combination of three aspects.

هٰذا بَصائِرُ – These are your eyes as well, وَهُدًى – and a guided path which is also determined from the Shari’at. وَرَحمَةٌ – And mercy, the ultimate objective which is ascertained by treading our lives on the path of the Shari’at.

لِقَومٍ يوقِنونَ – Thus the Shari’at is a rahmat, however not for every individual, but for those who have Yaqeen (conviction). Thus the acquirement of Yaqeen is a fundamental objective to reap the fruits of the Shari’at.

To be Continued Inshaa Allah..

THE SUNNAH OF LOOKING AFTER ONES HOUSEHOLD

Hakim bin Hizam Radiallahu Anhu reported Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam having said this:

The most excellent Sadaqa or the best of Sadaqa is that after giving which the (giver) remains rich and the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin from the members of your household.

Muslim Shareef

It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said:

Beware! every one of you is a shepherd and everyone is answerable with regard to his flock. The Caliph is a shepherd over the people and shall be questioned about his. A man is a guardian over the members of his family and shall be questioned about. A woman is a guardian over the household of her husband and his children and shall be questioned about them. A slave is a guardian over the property of his master and shall be questioned about. Beware, every one of you is a guardian and every one of you shall be questioned with regard to his trust.

Muslim Shareef

Narrated Qatada Radiallahu Anhu

Anas Radiallahu Anhu  went to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam with barley bread having some dissolved fat on it. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam had mortgaged his armor to a Jew in Medina and took from him some barley for his family. Anas Radiallahu Anhu heard him saying, "The household of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) did not possess even a single Sa (2.5kg) of wheat or food grains for the evening meal, although he has nine wives to look after."

Bukhari Shareef

Al-Aswad Radiallahu Anhu said, "I asked 'A'isha Radiallahu Anha, may Allah be pleased with her, 'What did Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam do when he was with his family?' She replied, 'He would do chores for his family, and when it was time for the prayer, he would go out.'"

Hisham Radiallahu Anhu said, "I asked 'A'isha Radiallahu Anha, 'What did Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam do in his house?' She replied, 'He did what one of you would do in his house. He mended sandals and patched garments and sewed."

'Amra Radiallahu Anhu reported that 'A'isha Radiallahu Anha was asked, "What did Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam do in his house?" She replied, "He was a man like other men. He removed the fleas from his garment and milked his sheep."
