The Saalik should not imitate the Mutaqaddimeen in their eating and drinking habits. The Mutaqaddimeen ate one almond for six months. They would drink so much water that fits in the hollowness of the thumb. They would make Sehri and Iftaar with this amount. They never slept for thirty years! They would commence Nafl at night and finish in the morning, thus not getting the opportunity to sleep.
Today if someone has to do that, then his parents will complain that my child has become insane. Strengths have diminished therefore never follow the Mutaqaddimeen in these aspects. In fact, I heard from Hadhrat Wala that our Dada Peer Hadhrat Haji Saheb Rahmatullaahi Alayh used to say: Miyan, eat well and work well!
Ahqar (Hadhrat Maseehul Ummat) says that ‘well’ means a good amount and also good food. This means to eat good food to your stomach’s fill. Through the Taufeeq of Allah this I substantiate from the Qur’aan Shareef:
1. Do not be so greedy for wealth that you forget to distinguish between halâl and harâm. Furthermore, do not waste the halâl wealth that Allah has blessed you with. Instead, spend it sparingly and on occasions of true necessity.
2. If a person who has been afflicted with a certain calamity decides to sell something of his because he is forced to do so (i.e. because he is desperately in need of the cash), then do not oppress him thinking him to be in extreme need. Nor should you ask him to reduce the price of the item. You should either help him or purchase that item from him at an appropriate price.
3. If your debtor is poor, do not distress him further. Instead, grant him a respite. Waive a certain amount of the debt, or better still, waive the entire debt.
4. If you owe money to a person and you have that amount to pay him, then it is extremely sinful and oppressive for you to delay in fulfilling this debt of yours.
5. As far as possible, do not take up any debt upon yourself. If there is no alternative, then always be concerned about paying it back. Do not become neglectful in this regard. If your creditor tells you something (with regard to your debt), keep quiet and listen. Do not counter-attack him nor become angry.
It has been the avowed pledge of Shi’ahs in all ages to dig up the graves of Sayyadina Abu-Bakr and ‘Umar (Radiallahu Anhuma), the two greatest sons of Islam, with the aim of stripping them from their shrouds, defiling their bodies, and hanging them from a tree for all to laugh and jeer at.
Sounds far-fetched, read on:
‘Umar bin Zaghab relates: “While I was in Madinah, I had a friend, Shamsuddin Malati, who was one of the workers in Masjid-al-Nabawi. He was a caring person and had a special place in his heart for the beggars of Madinah. One day he said to me: “I am going to tell you this amazing story:
“I had a friend, Sawab, who was close to the superintendent of Masjid-al-Nabawi. I would receive instructions of my duties through him. One day he came to me and said, "May Allah help me, something really terrible has happened. Some people from Aleppo (Syria) have arrived and presented the superintendent with a lot of money. They want him to open the doors of the Blessed Chamber so they can remove the graves of Sayyadina Abu-Bakr and ‘Umar (Radiallahu ‘Anhuma). Apparently, the superintendent has also given them the go ahead."
The Hadith of Sayyidina Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم is quite categoric:
الدنيا ملعونة ملعون ما فيها الا ذكر الله
'The world and all within it is accursed except for the Zikr of Allah (Ta'ala).'
Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi Sahib رحمه الله has stated that the need for discussing the disease of the love of the world (Hubbud Dunyâ) is necessary and under all circumstances. Women are particularly in need of it because those whose illness is acute, are in greater need of a cure. Experience has shown that this disease of the love of the world exists in numerous forms.
Those that do not possess much wealth are also engrossed in the world and this can be identified by a unique trait where people have opinions about everyone's affairs. Those who do not have much by way of wealth deprive themselves by making the world the object of their aspirations. The bounty of time given by Allah Ta'ala جل جلاله should be put to better use; the believer should value time and spend it in the remembrance of Allah Ta'ala جل جلاله. Hazrat Thaanwi رحمه الله has said that when our death occurs, it will occur in whatever we were involved in; and we will be resurrected how we occupied ourselves. Fortunate is that contented person who is granted the basic necessities of life and spends his time in the remembrance of Allah Ta'ala جل جلاله. This does not mean that one should have no concern for the world at all because each and every one has needs. But the issue is that a believer should not consume himself in the pursuit of the world at the expense of the Aakhirah.
Another deception is that many who are ill consider themselves to be 'healthy' and have lengthy plans. There are others who plan on being obedient after the wedding of their children. What are we waiting for? For death to overtake us? Some complain about their difficulties in such a manner that they will get 'respite' through death. Hazrat Thaanwi رحمه الله asserts that detachment from the problems of the world through death is of no use at all. What is beneficial however is to detach ourselves from the lure of the world whilst we are still alive.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ لِرَمَضَانَ " مَنْ قَامَهُ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ ".
Narrated Abu Huraira Radiallahu Anhu:
I heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam saying regarding Ramadan, "Whoever prayed at night in it (the month of Ramadan) out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven."
