Q. What is the hukm (ruling) of wearing make-up for the husband? Will it be considered taghyir-e-khalqillah (changing the natural looks of creation)?
A. Make-up generally consists of harmful and haraam ingredients, hence its use is haraam. Furthermore, the cosmetic industry runs notorious and cruel experiments on the helpless dumb creatures of this world. Purchasing such cosmetics is aiding in the zulm perpetrated on these animals.
Beautifying oneself for the husband in lawful ways is meritorious and in fact necessary.
Besides Buzrugs of the same path Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi never held himself back from visiting and deriving the suhbat of Buzrugs of different Sufi Orders. [However, Hazrat Thanwi (Nawwarallahu Marqadahu) in later life warned against meeting all Buzrugs and sundry. “I pass on mashwarah to my friends that this is dangerous,” he said. Refer to Al-Ifaazaatul Yaumiyyah, V.6 p.238, Idaarah Taaleefaat-e-Ashrafiyyah print. And in his lecture, Taqleelul Ikhtilaat Ma’al Anaam Hazrat Thanwi thoroughly discouraged this practice. Refer to the lecture for all the details.] Hearing of a Saheb-e-Nazar [Buzrug with a strong spiritual state and powerful spiritual gaze] he would be restless to come to his service to gain spiritual grace. Towards this end he withstood the austerity of safar as well, on many occasions. This indicates his sincerity and impartiality. Hereunder we will reproduce details of meetings with some of these Buzrugs.
She used to cry profusely and say: "I want to cry to such an extent that I have no tears left. Thereafter, I must cry blood to such an extent that I have no blood left in my body." Her servant says: "Ever since I set eyes on her, I benefited to such an extent that I never had any desire for the world nor did I look down upon any Muslim." Fudayl bin ‘Iyad is a very great and well known saint. He used to go to her and ask her for du‘as. Lesson: Being able to cry out of Allah's love or His fear is a very valuable gift. If you are unable to cry, at least adopt the expression of a crying person and Allah will have mercy on such humbleness. Look at the great benefit in sitting in the company of the pious - as mentioned by her servant. You should also seek pious company and keep away from evil persons.
A person bought guavas, pomegranates, coconuts or anything else which is generally not all the same. As long as the person does not see all the fruit, he will have the right to return them. By his seeing a few of the fruit, he does not forfeit the right to return. If a person purchases something that is to be consumed (either by eating it or drinking it), he does not forfeit his right to return by merely seeing it. He should also taste it. If he does not like it, he has the right to return it.
