All praises are due unto Allah alone. Durood and Salaams be upon Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam

Says Allah Ta’ala: “O mankind, you are paupers in the Eyes of Allah.”
Rasulullah Salalahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “He who humbles himself for Allah’s Pleasure, Allah will raise him in rank.”

The opposite of humility is pride. A person who is not proud is a humble person.

The only person whom Allah loves is a humble person. A proud person is despicable and detestable in the Eyes of Allah Rabbul-Izzah.
And why should he not be loathed by Allah? What right has he got to lay claims to greatness? What right has he got to boast and brag over his achievements? What right has he got to expect his praises to be sung and his name to be glorified? What right has he got to attribute his blessings – blessings bestowed upon his by Allah – to his intelligence and knowledge?

By Allah! Man’s pathetic bankruptcy defies imagination. He is so weak that an ant crawling up his leg is enough to distract him. A buzzing mosquito is sufficient to destroy his sleep. A missed meal is enough to cause him to panic and complain. And when he happens to skip a night’s sleep, he is reduced to a zombie. Why, man cannot even protect himself against a virus.

Hadhrat Moulana Maseehullah Rahmatullahi Alayh narrated the following incident:

Once a youngster was walking as if he wished to touch the skies with his head. This youngster was shaking his shoulders as if the east and the west belonged to him. This youngster was hopping along as if the earth belonged to him. In this intoxicated state of unbridled pride, he stumbled into an old pious man who was on his way to bow to Allah in the Musjid.
“Do you know who I am?” screamed the youngster in rage and anger.
The pious person calmly replied: “Yes, I know who you are. You are the same one who was born from a drop of impure sperm. That was your beginning. You are the same one whom the worms will feed on in the Qabr. That is your ending. And in between this you are walking with a pile of excretion in your stomach which is enough to make people flee from if you had to discharge it.”

O respected brothers and sisters in Islam, by Allah we possess nothing accept His Kindness.

How many are the wealthy who lost all their wealth! Just yesterday they were employers, today they are employees. Yesterday they gave Zakaat. Today they are recipients of Zakaat.

How many are the knowledgeable that wrote and tutored and gave speeches and possessed degrees. Today they are in such old age that they cannot even remember the names of their own children.

How many were those who were as strong as oxen. Today they need to be spoon fed in their old age.

How many were those whose beauty shaded the moon and brought blushes
to the roses. Today they are wrinkled beyond recognition.

And then, were there not those who were so pious that angels held in them in high esteem? Does history not record that they fell from grace so that even Shaytaan shakes his head in amazement.

What youth, what wealth, what knowledge, what strength, what beauty, what piety – we are indeed all paupers in the Eyes of Allah.

Saved is only that one, who humbles himself with all of his heart; with his sinew and the marrow of his bones; with each drop of his blood. No matter who we are; what status we may enjoy; how much we may be worth – may our minds and our very soul always lay prostrating in humility at the Throne of Allah Jalla Sha’nahu.
