Is there zakaat for lost jewellery?
Q: My father miss-placed money some years ago. Now he is deceased. However he left a note with the money that it must be given to his son, who was immature at the time. I have found that money the other day. Is there zakatt on that money? Do i have to fulfill his wish?
Answer: There is no zakaat on that money. If the heirs wish to, out of their own wealth, they can discharge the zakaat for the missed years. The entire amount will be distributed in accordance to the laws of Islamic inheritance amongst the heirs.
