Could they not find a suitable Islamic Scholar to speak to the learners ?

Media Review Network lambastes US Consular visit to Lenasia Muslim School
The chairman of the Media Review Network (MRN) has expressed “deep concern and alarm” about a visit by US consular staff to the Lenasia Muslim School (LMS), just south of Johannesburg on Thursday.
Zaakir Mayet, of the South African based advocacy group noted, the United States Administration has spearheaded campaigns of Islamophobia and occupation and provided unrelenting support to the Israeli regime.
“It is a tragic day when criminals covered in the blood of thousands of innocent men, women, and children and decorated with the screams of the tortured and raped are brought to our institutions of learning to be glorified,” he added.
The LMS principal, Mr. Rashid Muhammad, said the request was made by library officials offering learners bursaries to study in American institutions. LMS is one of the leading Islamic schools in South Africa providing both secular and religious learning.
The US officials addressed the Grade 11 boys. Mr. Muhammad explained, “We thought it might just be a thing concerned with education and studying abroad. We didn’t think there were any sinister implications.”
Jack Hillmeyer, the US embassy spokesperson, said he could confirm the visit. “Representatives from our Consulate General in Johannesburg visited the school today. He however said they were invited by the school to speak about educational opportunities in the US.
He added that it was a common presentation that they give around the world to schools when they request advice on how students might want to apply for and enroll at US university systems. “We are always happy to visit schools when requested,” he said.
In his statement Mayet, however, strongly opposed such projects. “We call on people of conscience to protest these deplorable acts and reject the compromising of our values of justice, the rejection of Islamophobia, oppression, torture and rape for material gain.”
The news of the visit has drawn varying responses. A comment on Cii’s webpage from a user, Muhammad Sayanvala read: “US institutions are amongst the top in the world. They have a strong academic culture.A lot of leading companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook and others are products of the American education system. Academic and cultural boycotts are pointless and achieve nothing, if only widen the gap in relations between Muslims and the world. Here’s my vote of support and appreciation to the employees of the US consulate who took out time to visit LMS!”
