The Position of Ilm/Islamic Knowledge

Foreword

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْم
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَكَفٰى ، وَسَلَامٌ عَلٰى عِبَادِهِ الَّذِيْنَ اصْطَفٰى.
أَمَّا بَعْدُ: فَقَدْ قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:”إِنَّ لُقْمَانَ قَالَ لِابْنِه: ’يَا بُنَيَّ! عَلَيْكَ بِمُجَالَسَةِ الْعُلَمَآءِ ، وَاسْمَعْ كَلَامَ الْحُكَمَآءِ. فَإِنَّ اللهَ يُحْيِ الْقَلْبَ الْمَيِّتَ بِنُوْرِ الْحِكْمَةِ ، كَمَا يُحْيِ الْأَرْضَ بِوَابِلِ الْمَطَرِ.” (الترغيب ، ج١ ص١١۲)

Translation

Rasoolullah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
“Luqmaan gave advice to his son, ‘O My Beloved Son! Make incumbent upon yourself association with the (Righteous) Ulama, and listen to the talks of the (Devout) Hukama, for verily Allah enlivens a dead heart through the celestial light of wisdom, like he brings to life the ground through a downpour of rain.” (At-Targheeb)
