Q. My husband has given me Talaaq e Raj’ee. I want to know whether I sit in Iddat from the time he moves out or from the time of the Talaaq? Also, four days after the Talaaq he made nikaah to another women. Would that mean that we can never reconcile? A. Iddat begins the exact time the talaaq is issued. The moment the husband pronounces talaaq or writes out a talaaq to his wife her iddat commences. In view of him issuing only one Talaaq Raj’i it is still possible to reconcile and he can keep you as his wife. However, if he does not make raj’at (take you back) then the nikaah terminates upon expiry of your iddat. Recite Qur’aan Shareef as if you are conversing with Allah Ta’ala to fortify yourself during this testing period you, as well as innumerable poor souls, are going through. May Allah Ta’ala be with you.
