Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi Sahib رحمه الله has reminded us that we need to take lessons from Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله.   How is it possible for an individual to attach importance to himself? Many are those who impose themselves on others but the retribution from Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله is indeed unique.

Hazrat Thaanwi رحمه الله mentioned an incident of a collector who passed away on the Shimla hilltop. His corpse was being transported from there on a bier in such a manner that his head was striking stones on the road. A person who observed this said; “There goes such a person whose word was law in the district but now he cannot save his own head from being knocked against these stones.”

The disease of pride over intellect has reached alarming proportions. There are those who, on the basis of intellect, have claimed godhood. Fir’awn was one such person who said:

انا ربكم الاعلى

‘I am your supreme lord.’

Hazrat Thaanwi رحمه الله mentions that even today, there is no dearth of pride below that of claiming godhood.
