I Will Kill your Son!
Hazrat Moulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi (rahimahullah) was one of the greatest scholars of the 13th century. Most of the great luminaries of the Indian Subcontinent of this era were either his direct or indirect students or disciples. Allah Ta‘ala had blessed him with vast knowledge, deep understanding and great spirituality.
His mother was a chaste and pious woman, an ardent worshipper and a special servant of Allah Ta‘ala. Despite being a woman, she was not of weak faith. She never allowed any defect with regard to Islam and imaan to creep into the hearts of her children. There was no place in her life for any superstition or baseless fears.
Her belief and faith in Allah Ta‘ala was so strong that once when Moulana Rasheed Ahmad (rahimahullah) was a child, she saw a famous powerful jinn standing next to his bed. He said to her: “Go to a certain grave and place a perfumed cotton wool on it, else I will kill your son.” She refused and said: “Go ahead, kill him. He is lying right there in front of you.” He had made these threats repeatedly but never did she feel threatened. Despite this clear challenge to him, let alone killing the child, the jinn could not even terrorise him. (Tazkiratur Rasheed pg. 23)
Lessons:
1. We too need to strengthen our imaan (faith) in Allah Ta‘ala. We cannot allow people and conditions to move and change our beliefs. At all times our gaze should be focused towards the mercy and unseen help of Allah Ta‘ala.
2. Although the influence of jadoo and jinn is a reality, in most instances it is mere superstition and imagination which then leads a person to do weird and un-Islamic things. We need to be extremely cautious in this regard and save ourselves and our families from falling prey to the various attacks against our faith and belief.
