How to Defend Rasūlullāh ﷺ

One of the most important ways in which we can honour him is to revive every single Sunnah practice. If devotion to Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam can draw people to Islām, imagine the change that we can make if we become devoted to the Sunnah of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

What is binding on me?

1. As a Muslim, a person who professes īmān, it is binding to reaffirm and renew our īmān in Allāh and Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam on a daily basis. One must attest to the Nubuwwat and Risālat of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam and at the same time, one must denounce and refute all the liars and imposters who claimed and claim this lofty position. Amongst the liars and imposters of this time are Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiyani and Fethullah Gulen. Our īmān is at stake if we doubt the Nubuwwat and Risālat of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Moreover, we must attest to and verify everything that came from Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam and state so too.

2. Obedience to Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam and following his every practice. A Muslim is bound to submit outwardly and inwardly to the guidance and instruction of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam. There should be no reservation in the heart whatsoever in this regard.

3. Love for Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam is essential and one cannot be a complete and true believer until and unless Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam becomes more beloved to him than the entire humanity. If a person is true in his love, he will follow the practices of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam and not turn to innovation. As innovation is a means of destroying the building of Islam.

4. One must adhere to all his sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam commands and stay away from whatever he sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam has forbidden. This must be done whether there is ease or difficulty, our mission must be to enliven his way, no matter the condition or circumstance.

5. A sign of love for him sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam is that one speaks about him and remembers him abundantly. One recites thousands of Salawāt and Durūd upon him daily. One has fervent desire in the heart to meet him and shows great honour when he is spoken about. Moreover, one has great love for all those that were beloved to him, like his spouses, family and companions. One should also express dislike for those who he disliked and hated. This must be done solely for the pleasure of Allāh Ta’ālā.

6. All Muslims must study the life of Sayyidunā Muhammad Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam and learn so much about him that one is able to defend his honour and invite others to his way and path.

7. The honour and respect for Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam even after he moved on from this temporary abode is binding upon us in the same way as it is if he were to be living amongst us. One must respect his name, his way, his instruction and guidance, and everything associated to him.

Safwān Ibn Sulaym, one of the pious predecessors, was such that whenever the name of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam was taken, he would begin to cry. He would stay in this condition even after people would get up and go away.

Imām Mālik rahimahullāh would take a bath, apply perfume and wear beautiful clothing, he would tie a turban and place a shawl over his head and then he would come out to teach the blessed Ahādīth of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

8. One of the greatest rights of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam upon us is to visit him. Visiting his grave is like visiting him when he was alive in the world. May Allāh Ta’ālā bless us all with the chance to visit the grave of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

9. All Muslims must engage in du’ā for the guidance of humanity at large. In addition, we must turn to Allāh Ta’ālā in sincere repentance for our own misdeeds that has brought destruction upon us. We make du’ā for all our Muslim brothers and sisters in various parts of the world that are challenged to express their belief, faith and love in Sayyidunā Muhammad Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

May Allāh Ta’ālā bless us with the ability to defend the honour of Rasūlullāh sallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam, his family and companions at all times, and grant us the ability to live a life according to the blessed Sunnah. Āmīn
