17th Ramadhaan – Significant Events in Islamic History
17TH Ramadhaan 2 AH (14 January 624)
The Battle of Badr took place.
313 Sahaba radiallahu anhu of Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,defeated approximately 1000 polytheists. 70 were taken as captives. 14 Muslims were martyred and Abu Jahl, the Firoun of the Ummah was also killed in this battle.
17 Ramadhaan 57 AH (15 July 678)
Our Mother Hazrat Ayesha Radhiyallahu Anha died at her home in Medina Sharif . She was 67 years old. She was buried in ‘Jannat-ul-Baqi’, Hazrat Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu Anhu led her funeral prayers.
17 Ramadhaan 40 AH (26 January 661)
Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib Radhiyallahu Anhu the fourth Caliph was assassinated by a Kharijite called Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Amr ibn Muljam al-Muradi on, in Kufah in present-day Iraq.
17 Ramadhaan 223 AH (15 August 838)
The Muslims defeated the Romans in the battle of Amuriyya. The leader of the army was Mu’Tasim Billah, the Abbasid Caliph. A Muslim woman who was taken captive used to shout Wa Mu’tasama and this was the catalyst for the battle. The Romans were defeated and humiliated.
