The Importance of Correcting Tajweed

Hadhrat Maulana Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar sahib رحمه الله said:

I have requested repeatedly, that [you should] take care of the proper usage and pronunciation of letters of the Qur’an shareef. Within your own circles, correct the usage of letters of the Quran Shareef under the guidance of a Qari Sahib. There are certain errors which are major sins themselves. The meanings [of the Qur’an] are changed due to changes in sounds [or pronounciation] of the letters. Therefore it is very important to recite the Qur’an in the right manner. Hakeem al-Ummah Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi رحمه الله urged and forced many religious scholars to read Noorani Qaida (a book helpful for learning proper recitation of Qur’an) before taking an oath of allegiance [pledge of purification.] This shows the significance of the matter. So don’t take it as a minor thing.

How angry a poet would be if somebody reads his poetical verses in a wrong manner? And the verses of Allah are read in anywhich way? It is a matter of pondering what is the right of dignity of His speech. Hadhrat Hakeem al-Ummah [Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi] says that if you spend half an hour daily, Insha Allah you would start reciting the Qur’an Shareef properly (with right usage of letters) within two months.
