Hadhrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi رحمة الله عليه and a donor

A wealthy individual insisted on donating to build the Wudhu area of the Khānqah/Masjid ran by Hadrat Thanvī رح in Thāna Bhavan.

Hadrat Thanvī did not accept donations indiscriminately. Rather he checked the donor’s income sources & financial dealings.

After satisfying the preconditions, donations were accepted or else were rejected.

This donor passed the prerequisites & his donation was accepted.

During the construction of the Wudhu area, the donor intervened & asked the laborer to follow some of his instructions.

Hadrat Thanvī رح found out & immediately refunded his donation then stated,

After one donates to a Deeni cause they cannot intervene and set forth conditions. Conditional donations are NOT accepted.

Lesson
True Ulama who place the Deen first,do not allow those that are Dunyawi inclined to influence their decisions as their decisions are based on Allah and Nabi Sallalaahu alaihi wasallam, the collecting of money and expanding comes secondary, the primary objective is preserving Deen in its pristine form for we shall not be questioned regarding numbers but regarding the Deen we passed on.

It is unfortunate that nowadays islamic organizations are influenced by the wealthy to compromise Deen, some Ulama are even employed by the NHS and advertise for everything they stand for..

Others are employed by banks and advertise the bank models that suit their target market.

Others join with businessmen in big money laundering schemes.

The matter Conflict of interest is accepted even in western law,any Aalim that is on the payroll of any industry would and should be considered compromised in that field and his fatawa would not be taken in that avenue.
