Explaining the true reality of ownership, Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thaanwi Sahib رحمه الله has made us aware of the deception of our thinking; everything will become clear at the time of death. Even whilst living in the world, nothing is truly ours. If someone says that; “At least it belongs to us prior to death and will only be separated from us at the time of death.” This gives testimony to one’s lack of understanding.

Hazrat Thaanwi رحمه الله gives the example of a most delectable dish; if it is the decision of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله to deprive us of it, an individual may experience severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea. In this case, one will not be able to eat even a single morsel. What then is the point of attachment of anything when we do not have control? If Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله desires, a bounty can be snatched away from us whenever He wants.

In a Hadīth narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه, Sayyidina Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم has said; “O Allah! Grant sufficient sustenance to the progeny and followers of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) which is enough to keep them alive.”

Hazrat Moulana Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Sahib رحمه الله comments that since Sayyidina Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم was given the knowledge of the reality of this worldly life, and was well aware of the pitfalls, he did not ask for the luxuries of life for his family. He fully understood that the pleasures of this world were short-lived and they ultimately lead to the disobedience of Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله. Sayyidina Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم therefore set an example of austerity and contentment.
