Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم and Hazrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه sought refuge from the Mushrikeen at the cave of Thawr. Prior to entering the cave, Hazrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه first cleaned it to ensure that there were no harmful creatures. He tore his garments into strips of cloth to plug all the holes in the cave where such creatures could be hiding. There were two holes which Hazrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه was unable to plug, he closed them with his feet. He thereafter made Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم rest his blessed head upon his lap as his feet remained covering the holes.

He was bitten on his foot but remained motionless so that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم was not disturbed. However, when the pain became unbearable, a tear rolled down his cheek and fell upon the noble countenance of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم; which awakened him. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم asked Hazrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه what had transpired and he was informed that he was crying due to the intensity of the pain. Our Noble Master صلى الله عليه وسلم applied some of his blessed saliva on the wound which instantly cured it.

It is indeed amazing that Hazrat Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه tolerated so much pain that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم be spared any inconvenience. Yaa Rabb! When we examine the actions of the Ummah in general, it pains us that we are deliberately causing grief to the noble personality of Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.

A great tragedy in our lives is that we do not learn or discuss the commitment of the Sahaba رضوان الله عليهم اجمعين to the mission of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. Due to us remaining ignorant, we have lost congeniality with our Deen. It is therefore a humble plea that each and every household discuss the perfection of loyalty of the Sahaba رضوان الله عليهم اجمعين. The discussion of the habits of the pious and loyal servants will indeed incline us towards submission InshaAllah.
