Question: I need some advise on rights due to a women when a taalaq is given.
I am not married in court, and would like to know if I have any rights if a taalaq is given.
Can I claim anything from my husband. Can the Jamiat help me to get what is due to me, if I may get something, as I can’t afford a lawyer.
please advise.
Answer:
The husband who gave talaaq to his wife is required to maintain her during her iddat period, that is, he has to provide for her food, clothing and shelter. If any amount of mehr is still outstanding he has to incumbently fulfil this obligation by paying her the outstanding amount.
