Jum’ah Khutbah in Another Language

Q. If the Jum’ah Khutbah is given in another language apart from Arabic, what is the ruling on that Khutbah and Jum’ah Salaat?

A. It is strictly forbidden to deliver the Jum’ah Khutbah in any other language besides Arabic. According to the Hanafi Math-hab it is makrooh tahreemi to deliver the Khutbah in any other language besides Arabic, whilst the Shaafi’ Math-hab stipulate the condition of parts of the Khutbah to be in Arabic for the validity of the Khutbah.

Whilst according to the Hanafi Math-hab a Khutbah recited in English or any other language apart from the Arabic language will be discharged and the Jum’ah Salaat valid, however this act is sinful and the congregation will be sinners.

According to the Shaafi’ Math-hab if the Khutbah was not read in Arabic, or at least parts of the Khutbah, the Khutbah and the Jum’ah Salaat will not be valid.
