Imaam Muzani (Rahmatullahi alaih) says that Imaam Shaafi’ (Rahmatullahi alaih) was asked: “Can you describe the pleasure you get from Ilm?” Imaam Shaafi’ (Rahmatullahi alaih) replied: “When I learn something new then I wish that every part of my body had ears and every part of my body takes pleasure in that knowledge.”
He [Imaam Shaafi’ (Rahmatullahi alaih)] was asked: “How was your craving for Ilm?” He replied: “Much more than that person who craves for money and hankers after it.”
He was asked: “How did you acquire Ilm?” He replied: “Like that mother who has lost her child and she goes about madly in search of the child.”
