Hazrat Ibn Umar Radhiyallahu anhu narrated that Nabi Sallallaahu alaihi wasallam said,

“Indeed, Allah Ta’ala and His Angels send mercy upon those who eat Sehri.”

“Eat Sehri and strengthen yourself for fasting.”

“The difference in our fasting with that of the Ahl-e-Kitaab (Jews and Christians) lies in partaking of food at Sehri time, they do not.”

“Eat Sehri because in it lies great blessings.”

At times, when inviting any of his Sahaabah to join him for Sehri, Nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam used to say, “Come and partake of blessed food with me.”

“Even though there may be no food, then too one date should be eaten or a drink of water be taken.”

Allaamah Ibn Hajar Rahmatullahi alaih, in his commentary on Bukari Shareef, has mentioned various reasons for the blessedness of Sehri:

  1. By partaking of Sehri, the Sunnah is followed.
  2. Through Sehri, we oppose the ways of the Ahl-e-Kitaab. They do not have Sehri.
  3. It provides strength for Ibaadat.
  4. Sehri is at a time in which Du’as are accepted.

 And many other benefits.
