Commenting on unjust criticism he received  from certain people, Hakim al-Ummah Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi رحمه الله said:

These are all controversies. Who will seal the tongues of people? As long as Allah Most High maintains a person in the service of his religion and accepts the service, then one should not be concerned even if the whole world vilifies one.

Shukr unto Allah! Like Ihya al-Uloom (the famous work of Imam al-Ghazali (i رحمه الله), my book (Bahishti Zewar) too was burnt and fatwas of Kufr were labelled against me. Then, in their very presence, Ihya al-Uloom was written in gold. Similarly, my book too, is being kept in the homes of these very people. All praise be to Allah! They are deriving benefit from it. Approximately 100,000 copies have already been printed (this was before 1943.) Others have translated it into their languages. I am extremely pleased that in spite of opposition, people are benefiting considerably from it. In fact, the book would not have become so widespread if there was no opposition.

Commenting further on the charges of Kufr which were directed against the ‘Ulama of Deoband, Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali  Thanvi رحمه الله said:

We have been taught to recite La ilaha illallah (there is no deity but Allah) when someone says that we are Kafir (an unbeliever.) Our Haji [Imdadullah Muhajir Makki  رحمه الله] sahib would say on such occasions, ‘if I am a believer by Allah Most High, then no one can harm me in any way.
