The Reward for Spending in Hajj and ‘Umrah
The journey of Hajj has become extremely expensive, and for many, they are able to undertake this journey of a lifetime after saving for many years. Taking this into consideration, it is imperative that we ensure our wealth is always pure and Halaal. If even just a small portion of our wealth is impure, it will destroy our entire Hajj.
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “When a pilgrim leaves for Hajj with pure (Halaal) wealth, places his foot in the stirrup and says, ‘Labbaik!’, a caller from the sky calls out, ‘Your Labbaik is accepted and you are fortunate. Your provision is lawful, your camel is lawful, your Hajj is blessed (without any sin).’ But, if he leaves with impure (Haraam) wealth, places his foot in the stirrup and says, ‘Labbaik! Allahumma Labbaik!’, a caller from the sky calls out, ‘Your Labbayk is not accepted and you are not fortunate. Your provision is unlawful, your wealth is unlawful, and your Hajj is sinful (it is not blessed)’.”
It has been narrated in a Hadith that the reward of a person’s Hajj is in proportion to the level of difficulty and hardship one experiences, and also according to the amount of wealth a person spends to carry out this obligation.
Hadrat Aisha Radiallahu Anha narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said to her when she was performing her Umrah: “You shall receive reward in accordance with your tiredness (that you experience in your Umrah), and in accordance with what you spend.” Hence, never complain of any difficulty and hardship experienced during Hajj, as the rewards are increased for the inconveniences experienced.
Indeed, those who have been granted the opportunity to perform Hajj are fortunate as their Duas are readily accepted, and for every Dirham (Rand) spent on their Hajj, it is multiplied by a million times.
Hadrat Anas bin Malik Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Those performing Hajj and Umrah are the delegates of Allah Ta’ala. He gives them whatever they ask, accepts whatever supplication they make, and replaces whatever they spend i.e. one Dirham is multiplied one million times.”
Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “The expenses incurred during haj is like that incurred in jihad, rewarded seven hundred times.” (Musnad Ahmad #23000)
It is not possible for the material world to offer us an opportunity where we can invest our money and secure for ourselves a return which is seven hundred times over. Here on the occasion of haj we are rewarded seven hundred times for the money we spend during haj with rewards that are stored for us in the eternal vaults of the hereafter, where there is no fear of any deficiency, loss, or theft.
We make Dua to Allah Ta’ala to accept the Hajj of every pilgrim, and may Allah Ta’ala grant each of us the opportunity to perform Hajj again and again, repeatedly. Ameen!
