RABI’AL AWWAL – MOULOOD
Question
According to a Pamphlet issued by a group which propagates moulood, it is asserted that the day of our Nabi’s birth is a greater day and a more joyous day that Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha. Is this correct?
Answer
The days of joy and celebration fixed by the Shariah are only two, viz., Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha. The Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) stipulates only these two occasions as days of joy and celebration. In Islam there is no such day as Meelaadun Nabi or Eid Meelaad-un-Nabi as fabricated by the Ahl-e-Bid’ah. That the occasion of Rasulullah’s (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) advent on this earth is the greatest bounty of Allah Ta’ala on mankind, there is no doubt in it.
But to claim that Islam has set aside a day for celebrating this occasion is false, bid’ah and baatil. It is stupid and baseless to draw a comparison between the day of Rasulullah’s birth and the day of Eid as the Bid’atis do. While accepting the great occasion that Rasulullah’s birth is, the innovation of a baseless custom cannot be accepted. When Islam has set aside only the two Eids for joyous celebration, it is wrong, un-Islamic and utterly irresponsible to fabricate another day of festival. By so doing, the proponents of meelaad are implying the Deen was left incomplete by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) since neither Rasulullah (sallahu alayhi wasallam) instructed the observation of this new day of ‘eid’ innovated by the Bid’atis, nor did the Sahaabah observe such a day of ‘eid’.
Question
I am aware that Moulood is bid’ah and not permissible. If the Maulana only gives a lecture on 12th Rabiul Awwal, will it be permissible to attend?
Answer
Functions on 12 Rabiul Awwal are an innovation. Since the Shariah has not fixed this date specifically for lectures, it is wrong, un- Islamic and bid’ah. The fact that there is insistence on attending the 12 Rabiul Awwal talk unsubstantiated by the Sunnah indicates its bid’ah status. If a permissible or even a Mustahab act is elevated above its Shar’i status, then such an act will be classified as bid’ah. It is therefore transgression of the prescribed limits of the Shariah to impose even a permissible practice on a reluctant person. Furthermore, in this era such talks on specific occasions and nonspecific occasions made specific, are given undue emphasis and pressure is applied on people to attend, hence it is not permissible to attend the talk on the night of 12 Rabiul Awwal.
Statements are made that at least its a good bid’ah, people will make dua or read quran sharif and Durood.

If a person says his going to a Casino or Nightclub to read quraan. Will there be benefit in that?
Will a person be willing to drink a glass of Zam Zam if a drop of urine was placed therein?
What will make you understand? Has the time not come to open your eyes and stop following what your forefathers did or inherited that was based on customs and not sunnah?
In the Hadith, the people of bid’ah are labelled KILAABUN NAAR – THE DOGS OF THE FIRE OF JAHANNUM. The ‘birthday’ of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has to be celebrated compulsorily every day of the year – every moment of life – in the way taught to us by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and the Sahaabah, and that way is stringent adherence to the Shariah and meticulous implementation of the Sunnah.
MEELAAD AND SEERAH PROGRAMMES AND FUNCTIONS ARE HARAAM BID’AH. IT IS WAAJIB TO ABSTAIN FROM PARTICIPATION IN THESE BID’AH SAYYIAH (EVIL INNOVATION) PROGRAMMES. EVERY DIVERGENCE FROM THE ORIGINAL PRISTINE SUNNAH OF THE SAHAABAH IS DHALAALAH (MANIFEST DEVIATION) WHICH LEADS TO JAHANNAM.
Intelligent Muslims, by applying their minds constructively, in the quest for understanding the Haqq (Truth) will not fail to be guided to the Truth. During the Khairul Quroon era (the ages of the Sahaabah, Taabi-een and Tab-e-Taabi-een), there did not exist these customs of meelaad and seerah. These practices were innovated into the Deen about six centuries after Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Who had greater love and devotion for Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)? The Qabar Pujaaris or the votaries of the new-fangled Seerah functions? Answering this question, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), himself said:
“Honour my Sahaabah, for verily, they are the noblest among you; then those who come after them (i.e. the Taabieen); then those who come after them (i.e. Tab-e-Taabieen). Thereafter falsehood will become prevalent.
