Recitation of Durood – Longing for the Companionship of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)
Increasing the Recitation of Durood on a Jumuah
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Increase the recitation of Durood upon me on the night of Jumuah and the day of Jumuah, as your Durood is presented to me.”
A Great Favour of Allah
Allah Ta’ala uses the Arabic word “Mann” in a Ayah to describe His favour upon us by blessing us with Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam. This is significant and indicates how great this bounty actually is. When describing other bounties, other words are used. The word “mann” is only used when describing those bounties of Allah that determine our everlasting success in the hereafter.
The birth, life, and Nubuwwah of Muhammad Sallalāhu’ Alayhi wa Sallam was THE greatest gift ever given to mankind. If one believes in and follows Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam, he will be saved from destruction in dunyā and Ākhirah. Through loving and following his Mubarak Sunnah, one will attain unimaginable heights. Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam said: “A person will be with whom he loves” (Bukhāri, 6168)
Longing for the Companionship of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)
Once, a Sahaabi (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) came to Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and said, “O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), you are dearer to me than my life, my wealth and my family. While I am within the confines of my home, I begin to think of you and become restless. My restlessness does not end until my sight falls upon you. O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), death is inevitable. After death, you will be in a high, exalted position as you are a Nabi and Rasul of Allah Ta‘ala, whilst I will be distant from you. O Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), perhaps I may not be blessed with the honour of seeing you. Whenever I think of this separation between us which will be caused through death, I become extremely saddened and grieved.”
Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) observed silence over this until Hazrat Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) descended with the following verse of the Quraan Majeed:
وَمَن يُطِعِ اللّٰهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فَاُولٰٓئِكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ اَنْعَمَ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ النَّبِيِّـنَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَآءِ وَالصّٰلِحِينَ ۚ وَحَسُنَ أُولَٰٓئِكَ رَفِيقًا (سورة النساء: ٦٩)
All those who obey Allah Ta‘ala and the Messenger are in the company of those on whom is the Grace of Allah Ta‘ala; the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam), the Siddeeqeen, the martyrs, and the righteous. (Al-Mu’jamul Awsat #477)
One should recite Durood upon Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ten times in the morning and evening.
Hadhrat Abu Dardaa (Radhiallahu Anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The one who recites durood upon me ten times in the morning, and ten times in the evening, will receive my intercession on the day of Qiyaamah.
