بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Hazrat Salmaan (Radhiyallaahu anhu) said, “On the last day of Sh’baan, Nabi Sallallaahu alaihi wasallam addressed us (the Sahaabah) and said, ‘O People! There comes over you now a great month, a blessed month in which lies a night greater in virtue than a thousand months. It is a month in which Allah has made fasting compulsory by day. And has made Sunnah the Taraweeh by night. Whosoever intends drawing near to Allah by performing any virtues deed, for such person shall be the reward like the one who had performed a Fardh in any other time. And whoever performs a Fardh, shall be blessed with the rewards of 70 Faraa’idh in any other time…”

A Brief Explanation

In these brief words, Nabi Sallallaahu alaihi wasallam brought to the notice of the Sahaabah, in fact, the entire Ummah, the Blessedness and Holiness of this Auspicious Month of Ramadhaan-the days and nights, hours, minutes and seconds we are currently experiencing.

What we have learnt by the above Hadith are the basics of Ramadhaan everyone is supposed to be well aware of. In short, we will explain just a few important points, Insha Allah.

  • ) From the beginning of Ramadhaan, Nabi Sallallaahu alaihi wasallam mentioned about the great ‘Bonus’ night named Laylatul-Qadr (the night of power) in order to prepare the Sahaabah to welcome this great night with ‘Ibaadat, Tilaawat, Zikr and Nafl Salaah. As we all know, it is a night in which Ibaadat is rewarded and recorded for a thousand months. As to when exactly this particular night is, we will Insha Allah discuss in a future article.
  • ) Nabi Sallallaahu alaihi wasallam also mentioned that Allah’s Law in this month is that the Muslims fast during the day. In brief, fasting means that a person abstains from food, drink and conjugal relations from dawn (Subah-Saadiq) to sunset. There are many rewards for the fasting person which we will Insha Allah discuss in a future article.
  • ) A great bonus everyone enjoys in this month is that the Nafl he/she reads will be rewarded as a Fardh. And a Fardh will be multiplied seventy times! Allahu Akbar! Imagine the rewards a person will credit for the Tahajjud, Ishraaq, Chaast, Awaabeen and any other Nafl Salaats read during the day and night!
