Q. Some say that the slit kurtah is not sunnah. Instead, the non-slit kurtah is Sunnah because Nabi sallallahu alayhe wasallam performed Salaah in only a kurtah. Please explain.
A. The slit kurta is the dress-style of innumerable Ulama, Sulaha and Awliya of this Ummah. It is the dress of our Akaabir of India. The miserable objection to the slit kurta indirectly targets such illustrious Ulama and Awliya of this Ummah the likes of Hazrat Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi, Hazrat Moulana Maseehullah Khan, Hazrat Shaikh Zakariyya, Hazrat Qaari Tayyib, Hazrat Mufti Mahmood, Hazrat Moulana Qaasim Saheb Nanotwi, Hazrat Moulana Rashid Ahmad Saheb Gangohi and a galaxy of illustrious followers and lovers of the Sunnah. May Allah Ta’ala show infinite mercy to them and grant them special proximity to Him.
Those who object to the slit kurta should firstly wag their tongues against the illustrious names mentioned. We are merely juniors following the libaas (dress) of the Saaliheen (Pious). And, this is a Sunnah per se.
The averment that it is Sunnah to wear a non-slit kurta because Nabi (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) performed Salaat in only a kurta is too vague to warrant a comment.
In the concept of Sunnah of the disparagers of the slit kurtah we advise them to remove the pockets from their kurtas as well, otherwise produce evidence for the Kurtah of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) having pockets.
