Assistance on the Bridge of Siraat – Durood Shareef
Assistance on the Bridge of Siraat
Hazrat Abur Rahmaan bin Samurah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports: On one occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) came to us and said, “Last night, I saw something extraordinary in a dream. I saw a man from my Ummah who was crossing the pul-siraat (the bridge over Jahannum). At times, he was crawling, at other times, he was dragging himself on his behind, and sometimes, he was hanging onto the siraat (about to fall into Jahannum). Suddenly, his Durood that he would recite upon me in the world came to him. It then held his hand, helped him to stand up on the siraat and assisted him to cross over it.
Hazrat Ummu Sulaym (radhiyallahu ‘anha) and the Mubaarak Perspiration of Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)
Hazrat Ummu Sulaym (radhiyallahu ‘anha) (who was a mahram of Hazrat Rasulullah [sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam]) narrates that once, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) visited her, and took his afternoon rest (qayloolah) at her home. Whilst sleeping, Hazrat Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) began perspiring.
She narrates that she took a small bottle and began collecting his blessed perspiration. When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) awoke and asked her what she was doing, she informed Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) that she was collecting his blessed perspiration, as there was no fragrance sweeter than it. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) permitted her to do so and did not disapprove of this action. (Saheeh Muslim #2332)
“Whoever recites Durood on Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَم from whichever part of
the world, the angels convey it to Rasulullah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَم exactly in the
manner it was read.”
Writing of Durood Shareef
A unique feature that we find in the famous books of hadeeth like the Sihaah Sittah i.e. Saheeh Bukhaari, Saheeh Muslim, Tirmizi, etc. is that when the authors recorded the ahaadeeth, they always wrote the durood on Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in full. They
never used abbreviations as we find nowadays like ‘S.A.W.’.
It didn’t matter even if the duroods took up a third of the kitaab. Hence, we find that upon their demise, Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) personally came to welcome and receive them. Thus, they lived for the sunnat and died in the laps of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
Through the blessings of the ahadeeth and abundant durood, they were honoured during their lifetimes and even after death. The grave of Imaam Bukhaari (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) would give off a fragrant smell.
