Parents, Wife, Son and Siblings

Q. I am in the process of drawing up a will and would like to distribute my estate according to Islamic Law. Currently, I have a wife, one son, both my parents are alive and I have three siblings (a brother and two sisters). How do I allocate the estate in accordance with Islamic Law?
A. The distribution of your estate in terms of the Shariah will be as follows:
The entire estate will be divided into 24 portions. The heirs and their respective shares will be:
Father – 4 shares = 16.66%
Mother – 4 shares = 16.66%
Wife – 3 shares = 12.5%
Son – 13 shares = 54.16%
Your siblings do not inherit in this case. Also please take note that the distribution will alter if any of the abovementioned inheritors pass away before you.
