Tilaawah – The Greatest Gift
Hujjatul Islām Hazrat Imām Ghazzāli رحمه الله advises that at times, you should aim to attain the greatest virtue of tilaawah, as you have come into this world for the commerce of the Hereafter. Therefore, wherever possible, make an effort to attain the maximum profits. Most definitely, tilaawah of the Holy Qur’ān is full of virtue, whether recited whilst walking, sitting or lying down, with wudhu or without wudhu (ie from memory, without touching the text or pages), in solitude and in public. However, the greatest benefit is when one recites the Holy Qur’ān at night, especially in the Musjid, whilst performing Salaah.
Hazrat Ali رضي الله عنه said: “Whoever recites the Qur’ān whilst standing in Salaah, he will receive 100 rewards for every letter. Whoever recites the Qur’ān whilst sitting in Salaah, will receive 50 rewards for every letter. Whoever recites the Qur’ān out of Salaah, in a state of wudhu, will receive 25 rewards and whoever recites the Qur’ān without wudhu (from memory), will receive 10 rewards.”

Shafeequl Ummah Hazrat Moulana Muhammad Farooq Sahib رحمه الله has mentioned that notwithstanding the responsibilities of our Mashaa’ikh as time goes by, three aspects are never compromised;
1. Tahajjud Salaah
2. Tilaawah of the Holy Qur’ān
3. Durood Shareef
Unfortunately, just as the recitation of the Holy Qur’ān is regarded as the most virtuous act of worship, the Blessed Kalaamullah is not afforded the true honour it deserves. Let us truly examine our consistency in tilaawah, our manner of recitation, our physical posture and spiritual etiquette – we have treated tilaawah as a ritual (if we even create the time daily to recite) and not as a spiritual fortress of attaching ourselves to Allah Ta’ala. It is vital for every individual to identify with the Holy Qur’ān and attain divine proximity. May Allah Ta’ala save us from every form of negligence and disrespect.
