WUDHU AND DEPRESSION! – PRACTICE UPON THE SUNNAH UNCONDITIONALLY
Without doubt the Sunnah of our beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam is based on divine knowledge from Allah Ta’aala. We as Muslims should practise upon the Sunnah unconditionally and have hope in the rewards which Allah has promised us for following the way of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.
Today it has become an increasing trend that people have now inculcated some Sunnah practices into their lives due to scientific evidence showing the worldly benefit of the certain Sunnah practice. Although there is some merit in this, and it provides some form of support and evidence for the reasoning behind the practice, we should not make that the purpose and object of the practicing on the Sunnah.
Our original intention and sole purpose for practising should be to attain the love of Allah All-Mighty. The scientific evidence which gives credit to the Sunnah should be presented only as an eye opener for those with week Imaan (Faith) who are not practising on the Sunnah.
Dusting The Bed Before Sleeping!
Al-Bukhaari and Muslim narrated that Abu Hurayrah Radiallahu Anhu said that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said:
“When one of you goes to his bed, let him dust off his bed with the inside of his lower garment, for he does not know what came onto it after he left it. Then let him say: Bismika Rabbee wada’tu janbi wa bika arfa’uhu wa in amsakta nafsi farhamhaa wa in arsaltahaa fahfazhaa bimaa tuhfaz bihi ‘ibaadika al-saaliheen ( In Your name, my Lord, I lie down, and in Your name I rise. If You should take my soul then have mercy on it, and if You should return my soul then protect it as You protect Your righteous slaves).”
Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Sharh Muslim: “the inside of his lower garment” means its edge. What is meant is that it is Mustahabb to dust down his bed before lying on it, lest there be a snake or scorpion or other harmful thing in it. And he should dust it down with his hand covered by the edge of his lower garment, lest something bad happen to his hand if there is anything there.
Science now tells us that when someone sleeps some dead cells die and are dropped onto his bed sheet where it accumulates. These dead cells not easily visible and dust mites feed off them. Mites feed on the dead skin cells that we shed naturally in our sleep. Their mouths are designed like chopsticks in that they don’t open very far, so thin, protein-packed flakes of skin are ideal for them. A key to eliminating dust mites is getting rid of their food source, and that means dusting them with a cloth.
Most people think the Sunnah of dusting the bed is a way of eliminating harmful rodents and small insects but don’t know that the issue is so much greater than that… It is very sad to find that most of us ignored such teachings of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.
Wudhu And Depression!
One of the doctors revealed an amazing discovery in his speech by saying, “I get the face of patients with depression washed five times per day and after few days their disease reduced. Then I get the face, hands and feet of a similar group of patients washed five times a day and they healed up to a great extent.” The same doctor accepts in the end of his speech that the problem of depression is less in Muslims as they wash face, hands and feet (i.e. during Wudhu)s everal times daily.
Wudhu and Blood Pressure!
A heart specialist assures that if a patient of hypertension is asked to perform Wudhu and then his blood pressure is checked, his B.P. will be definitely lower.
A Muslim Psychiatrist states, “The best cure for psychiatric patients lies in Wudhu.” The western experts get body parts of psychiatric patients washed several times like Wudhu.”
Wudhu and Paralysis!
Even the order of washing organs during Wudhu is beneficial. Washing of hands in the first step motivates the nervous system of the body and then slowly effects transmit towards veins of face and brain.
The order of washing hands, then the mouth, then the nose and then washing of the remaining organs reduces the probability of paralysis.
