Laylatul Qadr-What to Do

Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power) is described in the Quran as, “better than a thousand months” (97:3). Any action done on this night such as reciting the Quran, remembering Allah, etc. is better than acting for one thousand months which do not contain the night of Qadr.

Allah’s Messenger Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam used to exert himself in devotion during the last ten nights to a greater extent than at any other time.(Muslim). Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.

Aisha Radhiallahu anha, related that the Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallamt said: Look for Laylatul Qadr on an odd-numbered night during the last ten nights of Ramadan (Bukhari).

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “Whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hoping for its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” (Bukhari and Muslim recorded from Abu Huraira).

Here are some tips of things we can do on the Night of Power to additionally benefit from its blessings:

1. Read an EXTRA portion of Quran (Even if its a few pages)

2. Perform an extra two Rak’aats of Nafl Salaah in hope for Allah’s Rahmat (mercy)

3. Recite the Masnoon Dua and engage in an abundance of Istighfaar and Tasbeehaat

4. Give out some Sadaqah (even if it be during the day time)

5. Do not engage in any Idle talk, remain in the remembrance and recognition  of Allah Ta’aala (Most High).

The AIM is to honour and show reverence and respect for this night. When the King showers His Mercy and Rahmat, the slave stands with open arms and takes advantage of the opportunity with enthusiam. This is a form of appreciation and gratitude. “AND ALLAH DOES NOT LOVE EVERY INGRATE SINNER” (Qur’an)

HADITH

A duaa to be recited during this night-taught to Hadhrat Aa`ishah (Radiallahu anha) by Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam):-

اَلّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ ثُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاْفُ عَنِّى

In one narration, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is reported to have said, “Whomsoever is deprived of it, is deprived from all good. And none is deprived of it`s good (i.e blessings) except every deprived person (i.e a really unfortunate soul).”
