False Tenderness vs. Sincere Islaah

Harshness in Hidaayat
Nowadays, some people say that a certain person is harsh in his Amr Bil Ma’roof (enjoining good). In reality, it is not harshness. If it is, then know that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) was also considered ‘harsh’ at times. Both tenderness and harshness were among the noble qualities of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam).
While Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has departed from this temporary worldly abode, the Chain of Hidaayat (Guidance) continues. Therefore, understand well, O peer (spiritual guide)! Hidaayat will not vanish with your absence. It shall never disappear.
Your concern should be solely to discharge your obligation of ta’leem (teaching) and tarbiyat (spiritual nurturing) without deception or trickery. The claim of ‘tenderness’—pampering mureeds and catering to their whims—is merely a verbal proclamation. It is not a sincere, heartfelt intention.
This kind of verbal niyyat (intention) is that of a sheikh mubtil (false and fraudulent guide). His true objective is wealth and fame, though he outwardly speaks of moral character, guidance, and adherence to the Sunnah. Such ‘shaikhs’ should know that not all people are gullible. Not everyone will fall into their deceptive traps.
Furthermore, even if it is assumed that you can deceive everyone, what answer will you give to Allah Ta’ala?
Tenderness is not suitable for all situations. When harshness is necessary for Islaah (moral reformation), then tenderness will not be of benefit.
