The people of Yemen have been praised in numerous narrations of Rasulullah ﷺ for their faith, wisdom, humility, and soft-hearted nature. These virtues highlight the special qualities found amongst the righteous people of Yemen and the great contributions they have made to Islam throughout history.
1. Faith and Wisdom Are Yemeni
Rasulullah ﷺ said:
“Faith (Iman) is Yemeni and wisdom is Yemeni.”
— Sahih Bukhari & Muslim
الإِيمَانُ يَمَانٍ وَالْحِكْمَةُ يَمَانِيَةٌ
This noble hadith demonstrates the distinguished qualities of faith and wisdom that were found amongst the people of Yemen and for which they were praised by Rasulullah ﷺ.
2. The Most Tender Hearts
In another hadith, Rasulullah ﷺ said:
“The people of Yemen have come to you. They are the most soft-hearted and tender-hearted people. Faith is Yemeni and wisdom is Yemeni.”
— Sahih Muslim
This was said when the Ash’ari tribe, led by Abu Musa al-Ash’ari رضي الله عنه, arrived from Yemen.
The hadith highlights the compassion, humility, and sincerity that characterized the people of Yemen.
3. Allah Loves Them and They Love Allah
Regarding the people of Yemen, Allah Ta’ala revealed:
“Allah will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him.”
(Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:54)
Rasulullah ﷺ pointed towards Abu Musa al-Ash’ari رضي الله عنه and his people from Yemen and indicated that this verse referred to them.
What a remarkable virtue it is to be described as a people whom Allah loves and who sincerely love Allah.
4. The Breath of Ar-Rahman from Yemen
Rasulullah ﷺ said:
“I find the breath of the Most Merciful from the direction of Yemen.”

The scholars explain that this hadith refers to the coming of righteous servants from Yemen, among them Uwais al-Qarni رحمه الله, the famous Tabi’i whose du’as were accepted.
This narration reflects the spiritual blessings and righteousness associated with Yemen and its pious inhabitants.
5. Help Will Come from Yemen
Rasulullah ﷺ repeatedly praised the people of Yemen for their softness of heart, sincerity, and strong Iman. As Muslims, we honour and appreciate those noble qualities and the many sacrifices made by the righteous people of Yemen in serving Islam.
We love the people of Yemen and pray for their wellbeing. At the same time, our love for the people should not be confused with support for any group that harms civilians, holds deviant beliefs or practices, or forms alliances with deviant powers.
