Virtues Of Some Surahs From The Holy Quraan For Us To Benefit From:

 

Surah (1)  al Fatihah

·        The Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘The mother of the Qur’an are the seven oft repeated verses’ i.e Sura Al Fatihah [Hadith Bukhari]

 

Surah (2) al Baqarah

·        Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Do not turn your houses into graves. Shaitan is barred from any house in which Surat al-Baqarah (2) is recited.” [Hadith: Muslim]

 

Surah (3)  al Imran

·        Abu Umamah (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said ‘Read the two radiant ones al-Baqarah and Al ‘Imran for they will come on the Day of Resurrection like two clouds, or two shades, or two flocks of birds, pleading for their companions’
[Hadith : Muslim]

 

Surah (18) Al Kahf

 

·        Whoever recites Sura Al Kahf every Friday will bring light to its reciter between the two Fridays (Hadiths: Baihaqi, Al Hakim)

 

·         Whoever memorizes ten Ayats from the beginning of Sura Al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal. [Hadiths :Muslim, Abu Dawud, An-Nasa’i and Tirmidhi]

 

Surah (36)  Yaasin :

 

·        The Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘Surely everything has a heart, and the heart of the Qur’an is sura Yaasin. I would love that it be in the heart of every person of my people’ (Hadiths: Ahmad, Abu Dawood, Nasai, & Hakim)

 

·         Whoever recites Surah Yaasin once Allah will record the reward of reciting the Qur’an ten times (Hadith Tirmidhi)

 

·        It has been reported by Aisha the wife of the Prophet (PBUH) (May Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (PBUH) said that there is a surah in the Qur’an that intercedes for its reciter and forgive its listener. Know! It is Surah Yaasin. (Hadith: Tirmidhi)

 

·        It embraces the person with the goodness of this world and removes the dismay of the Hereafter (Hadith: Tirmidhi)

 

Surah (44) Ad Dukhan

·        Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that the messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, ‘Whosoever recites Surah ad-Dhukhan every night, seventy thousand angels will ask forgiveness for him’ [Hadith : Tirmidhi]

  Surah al Fath (48)

·        Umar (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, ‘A Surah of the Qur’an was revealed to me tonight, indeed it is the dearest Surah to my heart, than anything under the sun’. Then the Prophet recited Surah al Fath verses 1-5. [Hadith Bukhari]

 

Surah (55)  Al Rahman

·        Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘Everything has an adornment, and the adornment of the Qur’an is Surah ar Rahman’ [Hadith:  Baihaqi]

 

                                    

Surah (56)  Al Waquiya :

·        Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘Whoever recites surah al Waqiah at night would never encounter poverty’[Hadith: Baihaqi]

                        

Surah (67) Al Mulk:

·        will prevent its reciters from being afflicted with torture of the tomb (Hadith : Abu Dawood)

 

·         will protect its reciter from the torment of the grave” [ Hadiths: Tirmidhi & Nasai] 

 

·         And it is recommended to be read everyday before going to bed as  it was the custom Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) not to go to sleep until he had read Surah Al Mulk (Hadith Tirmidhi)

                           

    Surah (100) Aadiyat

·        The Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘Whoever recites Aadiyat his reward equals one half of the Qur’an’ [Hadiths Hakim & Tirmidhi]

 

 Surah (109)  al Kafirun

·        The Prophet said, ‘Recite surah al Kafirun and then go to sleep after coming to its end, for it is a clearance from shirk’[Hadiths: Abu Dawood  & Hakim]

 

·        Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas and Anas Ibn Malik (radiAllahu anhum) reported that the messenger of Allah (PBUH) said ‘It is equivalent to a quarter of the Qur’an’[Hadith Tirmidhi].

 

·        Abdullah ibn Umar Al-Khattab (radiAllahu anhu) reported that Allah’s messenger (PBUH) said, “Qul Huw Allahu Ahad” is equal to a third of the Qur’an and “Qul ya ayyuhal Kafirun” is equal to a fourth of the Qur’an.” [Hadith at-Tabarani, classed as Sahih]

 

Surah (110)  al-Nasr

·        Anas (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘It is equivalent to a fourth of the Qur’an’ [Hadith: Tirmidhi]

 

Surah (112) al Ikhlas

·        Anas mentioned that a man said to the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) , ‘I really love this surah’. The Prophet replied, ‘And your love for it will enable you to enter paradise’ [Hadith: Tirmidhi]

 

·        Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said about the surah, “Say: He is Allah, Absolute Oneness” (112), ‘By Him in Whose hand my soul is, it is equal to one third of the Qur’an!’[Hadith Bukhari]

 

·        “Qul Hu Allahu Ahad” is equal to a third of the Qur’an and “Qul ya ayyuhal Kafirun” is equal to a fourth of the Qur’an.”
[at-Tabarani, classed as Sahih]

 

·        Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas and Anas Ibn Malik (radiAllahu anhum) reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘Whoever recited Surah Zilzilah (99) would get the reward of reciting half the Qur’an. Whoever recited surah al Kafirun (109) would get a reward as if reading a quarter of the Qur’an. Whoever recited Surah al Ikhlas (112) would get a reward as if reading one third of the Qur’an’.[Hadith: Tirmidhi]

                                                                        

·        Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said to his Companions, “Are any of you unable to recite a third of the Qur’an in a night?” That was difficult for them and they said, “Which of us is able to do that, Messenger of Allah?” He said, “[The surah] ‘Say: He is Allah, Absolute Oneness, Allah, the Everlasting Sustainer of all’ (112) constitutes a third of the Qur’an.’ [Hadith: Bukhari ]

 

Surah (113)  al Falaq

 

The Prophet (PBUH) used to seek refuge from the jinn as well as from the evil eye until Surah al Falaq and An Naas were revealed. When they were sent down, he utilised them and left other things.[Hadith : Tirmidhi]

 

Surah an Nas (114)

·        A’isha (radiAllahu anha) reported that whenever the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) became sick, he would recite Mu’awwidhat (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Surahs) and rub his hands over his body hoping for its blessings.[Hadith: al-Bukhari]

 

·        ‘Uqbah Ibn ‘Amir (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the messenger of Allah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said ‘No seeker of refuge can seek refuge with anything like these two’[Hadith: Abu Dawood]
