Imaam Shaafi’ (Rahmatullahi alaih) said: “The primary basis [of the Ahkaam of the Shariah] is the Qur’aan and Sunnah. Yes, if these two are not found, [that is, the issue or mas-alah is not found explicity in the Qur’aan and Sunnah] then analogical deduction (qiyaas) from the Qur’aan and Sunnah is warranted.”
