We are Muslims all the Year Round!
Alhamdulillah, the Most Blessed month of Ramadhan is over!
It definitely is one of the greatest gifts that Allah presents to us every year.
During this month we become obedient servants of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. We try our best to obey all his commands and keep away from all wicked acts that we normally are used to.
We regularly offer our Salah, recite the Holy Qur’an, make Zikr, observe Fasts, and give Sadaqah and Zakat.
We look after our neighbours, our relatives, the needy ones, the sick ones, etc.
We feed the orphans, the poor ones, the invalids, etc.
We also avoid backbiting, slandering, abusive and futile talks, keeping relations with ghayr-mahram, watching movies, videos, having attachment to social media, etc.
Unfortunately, as soon as the sacred month of Ramadhan is over, the tables get drastically turned. All our sanctity, decency, decorum, and somberness disappear and our lifestyle returns to the same, old position!
It’s just like a person who would thoroughly clean his house, paint it and decorate it so that it would look the most attractive and beautiful for a certain occasion, like the wedding of his child, etc.
As soon as that occasion is over, would he voluntarily go and bring a lorry loaded with filth and splash that filth all over his house to bring it back to its original state, or make it even worse?
Of course not. No sane person would do that!
Then why are we acting in that manner?
We are not seasonal Muslim!
We are complete 24/7/365 Muslims – meaning 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 weeks per year Muslims.
We are Muslims for all seasons, for all times and in all situations. Allah with His infinite Mercy has given us the month of Ramadhan just to elevate our status.
Ramadhan is actually a kind of training ground for us, so that we can get trained to be proper Muslims for the rest of the year.
So, being a proper Muslim and doing the righteous deeds all the year round, you will insha’Allah earn a great deal of rewards.
Allah says in His Holy Qur’an:
“Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer – We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do”. (Qur’an 16:97)
