Nabi Daanyaal (alayhis salaam) was among the Ulul Azam — the most prominent and senior Ambiya of Bani Israeel. He lived centuries before Nabi Isaa (alayhis salaam).

When the transgressions of the Yahood exceeded all bounds and they fell into immorality, vice, bid’ah, fisq, and fujoor, Allah Ta’ala sent the Babylonian king, Nebuchanezar, from Iraq to punish them. He invaded the land of Bani Israeel, destroyed Jerusalem, desecrated Musjidul Aqsa, and burned all manuscripts of the Tauraah. This event is referenced in Surah Bani Israaeel.

The Yahood suffered mass slaughter and were taken in chains to Iraq as slaves. Among them was Nabi Daanyaal (alayhis salaam), who was appointed by Allah Ta’ala to console Bani Israeel and keep the flame of Deen alive during their captivity. He was gifted with the ability to interpret dreams, similar to Nabi Yusuf (alayhis salaam), and he fearlessly proclaimed the truth of Deen.

After Nebuchanezar’s death, Neebushanezaar became king. He had a perplexing dream that none of his astrologers or sorcerers could interpret. He summoned Nabi Daanyaal (alayhis salaam), who declined the king’s rewards and offered to interpret the dream.

The dream foretold the rise and fall of empires. Of particular interest was the prophecy of a future evil regime described as the ‘Reign of Abomination’ and the ‘Kingdom of Sin’. This regime would mark the beginning of the end times, characterized by immorality and sin. Two great holy personalities and two evil anarchists would emerge during this period.

Armies would come from the north, defiling the sacred fortress and prohibiting daily sacrifices. Nabi Daanyaal (alayhis salaam) heard two sacred voices:

First Voice: “When will this event of the sacred abode being trampled and defiled occur?”
Second Voice: “Two thousand and three hundred days. Thereafter this holy place will be purified.”

The prophecy also mentioned that the ‘Reign of Abomination’ would end after 45 days. Even Nabi Daanyaal (alayhis salaam) did not fully understand the mystery, so he supplicated to Allah Ta’ala for clarity. According to the Tauraah, Allah Ta’ala responded:

“O Daanyaal, concern yourself with your mission. A lock has been placed on the words and the matter has been decreed. The mystery will be solved at the appointed time.”

And, Allah knows best.
