Commentary:

Today people will show the greatest respect for the Kabah and other sacred symbols of Islam, which is important and commendable, yet when it comes to respecting and honouring a Muslim the response is quite the opposite. The heart of a believer is considered more sacred in the eyes of Allah than all these great symbols. Hurting and abusing a Muslim physically or verbally is a major sin.

Respecting and honouring a Muslim takes a great amount of humility and courage. By respecting someone and thinking them to be better than us, we in reality extinguish the tendencies of arrogance, pride and haughtiness which are subtly lurking within us.

In another Hadith it is mentioned that the person who humbles himself solely for the pleasure of All Ta’ala, Allah will elevate him. When Allah elevates someone can there be any dishonour for him?

May Allah Ta’ala grant us the beautiful quality of humility.
