Commentary & Reflection
This hadith emphasizes the divine attribute of gentleness (rifq) and its value in human behavior. The Prophet ﷺ teaches that:
- Gentleness is beloved to Allah, and it reflects His mercy and wisdom.
- Gentle conduct—whether in speech, action, or leadership—brings unique rewards that harshness cannot.
- This applies to personal relationships, community interactions, and even religious guidance.
Scholars explain that gentleness:
- Softens hearts and opens minds.
- Prevents conflict and promotes harmony.
- Is a key trait of the Prophet ﷺ, who was described in the Qur’an as being gentle with his companions (Surah At-Tawbah 9:128).
